Saturday, October 16, 2021 at approximately 1118 hours, the Sleepy Hollow Volunteer Fire Department was requested to assist with an animal rescue for a dog who’s paw was stuck inside of the bathtub drain hole.

Per 2311, Rescue 12 took the assignment. When we arrived, the puppy was in the care of the Sleepy Hollow Police Officers. Shortly after we arrived, a Veterinary Technician with the Sleepy Hollow Animal Hospital arrived and joined the rescue effort. We learned from the Sleepy Hollow Police Officers that the puppy’s paw was swollen, which is what was making it difficult for the puppy’s paw to become free. After attempting to free the puppy’s paw with Vaseline and vegetable oil, 2311/Chief Korzelius, requested the assistance of a local resident/small business, Donovan’s Plumbing.

With a team that consisted of Police, Fireman, a Veterinary Technician and a Plumber, we were able to help this puppy free her paw.
Mr. Kelly from Donovan’s Plumbing was able unscrew the drain flange from the drain arm while in the basement. This then allowed for us to transport the puppy to the Sleepy Hollow Animal Hospital and continue our rescue effort there.

When at the animal hospital, Ex-Captain Marco Faustino, along with the Vet-Tech, used wire cutters to cut the middle of the drain flange. Doing so freed the puppy’s two paw pads that were stuck in the hole.

As they say, it truly takes a Village. We can’t thank everyone enough for assisting and coming together to help this one year old puppy out. Thank you to the Sleepy Hollow Police Department, the Sleepy Hollow Animal Hospital, and Donovan’s Plumbing for your help.
Daisy (the puppy) was strong throughout the entire rescue and is home recovering.

Special Thanks to Sleepy Hollow Animal Hospital, Sleepy Hollow PD & Donovan's Plumbing
