Today, members of the Sleepy Hollow Volunteer Fire Department utilized Marine 27, our dinghy boat, to assist with the ‘Light House Swim’ event put on by the Sleepy Hollow Recreation Department.

Approximately 50 swimmers swam 1.5 miles to benefit ‘Feeding Westchester’, a wonderful non-profit organization with a mission to fight against hunger.

The crew on Marine 27 was able to assist/rescue 3 swimmers who, for various reasons, could not continue. The SHFD is happy & committed to assist our community in anyway we can.

The SHFD, it’s members, and the community have been without a functional FIRE-BOAT for almost 8 YEARS after it was damaged during Hurricane Sandy in 2012. This dinghy boat we utilized today is great for certain types of rescues but it is not a fully functional fire boat.

We miss Marine 7 and we continue to fight for a new Fire boat so we can best assist those on the water.

Fun fact: The SHFD covers one of the largest areas of water in the river-towns. 2.96 sq miles.
